工作坊宗旨

1.      讓參與課程的學員細味以下數學課題:

·       概率簡介

·       生活中的圖案排列

·       生活中的幾何

·       三角學簡介

·       改變世界的方程式

 

2.      透過課程內活動,提高參與課程的學員的解難及高階思維能力;

3.      讓參與課程的學員發現數學與日常生活的關係,從而使他們明白學習數學更具意義;

4.      讓參與課程的學員能欣賞數學之美,明白數學不只限於計算;

5.      透過課程內活動,讓參與課程的學員提強個人表達能力及與人溝通能力。

工作坊簡介

數學與現實世界有什麼關係?為什麼學生必須修讀數學科?學習數學與將來的工作又有什麼關係?修讀本課程的學員將會找到答案。

 

本課程專為小四至小六資優學生而設,課程內容包括:概率的基礎應用、生活中的規律、幾何奇觀、三角學的應用及分形幾何。在課堂上,透過觀察、遊戲、討論及導師指導等不同形式的學習活動,學生可深入了解上述課題、體會數學奧妙之處及提升其創造、批判、解難與溝通方面的能力。

目標對象/參加條件

小四至小六的學生:

  • 需在小三、小四或小五取得優異的數學科成績;

  • 曾獲得任何本地或國際的數學比賽獎項;

  • 良好品德

導師

關焯權先生

關焯權先生獲取香港大學教育碩士、理碩士(電腦) 、理學士(工程) 、教育文憑及香港電腦教育學會專業會員。

 

他也曾以借調形式在教育局數學教育組工作兩年,並從2009年開始至今擔任教育局數學組數學閱讀報告比賽的籌委及評判之一。在2009年至2013年期間,他曾獲邀擔任教育局「課程為本學與教資源庫(數學) 」焦點及工作小組成員之一。

 

由2018年開始,他獲委任為世界資優中心的(https://www.wgc.ae/) 香港區協調員,世界資優中心與聯合國教育、科學及文化組織緊密合作。

 

此外,他亦為香港大學教育學院融合及特殊教育研究發展中心轄下資優教育、創意及天才發展工作小組創始成員之一。過往數年,他均擔任暑假資優課程的課程設計者及導師,並早年獲邀向與修讀港大教育學院教育碩士生分享他對數學資優教育的看法。

 

教育局於去年邀請他擔任課業質素保證委員會委員之一,任期為2020至2021。該委員會主要為網上數學科學與教及評核材料(STAR及WLTS)提供專業意見。

 

他也曾分別獲教育局檢討及策劃組和港大教育學院邀請擔任講者,向中學數學老師及修讀港大教育學院教育碩士生分享以英語教授數學的經驗。

他亦獲邀擔任教育局評估及考評局組中學數學課業質素保證委員會委員之一,為教育局網上題目庫(STAR)及「網上學與教支援」(WLTS)提供專業的意見。

 

最後,他聯同一位港大教育學院副教授曾撰寫一篇有關數學資優課程設計的論文,並於2013年《資優及天才國際期刊》內發表。他亦曾於香港特別行政區教育局課程發展署數學教育組《2019 學校數學通訊第二十二期》內發表一文章有關數學資優課程的設計理念及實踐。

Workshop Objectives

1. Students will learn about:

  • Introduction of Probability 

  • Patterns in Daily Life

  • Geometry in Daily Life 

  • Introduction of Trigonometry  

  • Equations changing the World

2.  Students will acquire problem solving and higher ordering skills through the class activities;

3.  Students will start observe and connect math to their daily life and realize the real meaning of learning math;

4.  Students will be guided to appreciate the beauty of math instead of just doing math; and 

5.  The interpersonal and intrapersonal skills of students will be enhanced through working together with friends who 
      have similar interests.

Workshop Description

What is the connection between Math and the real world? Why learning math? What is the relationship between math learning and our future career? The students will find out their answers after the workshop.

 

The workshop will be conducted through observations, activities, games and discussion

 

Target Participants / Prerequisite

P4-P6 students

  • High scores obtained in all summative assessments of Math in P. 3, P. 4 or P. 5

  • Obtaining any award in local or international math competitions

  • Good conduct

Instructor

Anderson Cheuk-kuen KWAN

Anderson KWAN (Cert.Ed., B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Ed., MACE), who seconded to  Mathematics Education Section of Education Bureau (EDB) for 2 years, is an  adjudicator of EDB Math Book Report Competition since 2009, a focus and working  group member of EDB Digital Depository (Math) from 2009 to 2013.  

In addition, he was also a founding member of the special interest group for Gifted  Education, Creativity and Talent Development at HKU. Besides, he has acted as a  course designer and tutor of summer gifted programmes held by HKU for several  times as well as had a sharing to HKU M.Ed. students regarding gifted education.  

He was also a guest speaker invited by the Review and Planning Section of EDB as  well as the Faculty of Education at HKU respectively to conduct a sharing to secondary  teachers and HKU M.Ed. students how to conduct math lessons for junior form  secondary students by English Medium Instruction.  

Besides, he is also invited to be a member of Task Quality Assurance Committee for Math at Secondary Level, Assessment & HKEAA Section, Education Burau in order to provide professional advices on EDB’s Student Assessment Repository (STAR) and Web-based Learning and Teaching Support (WLTS) respectively.

At last, he also published a journal in 2013 jointly written with a HKU associate  professor regarding the design of the programmes about gifted education in Math in  Gifted and Talented International Journal as well as another paper about the design  rationale and implementation of mathematically gifted programs in 2019 School  Mathematics Newsletter Vol. 22 published by Mathematics Education Section,  Curriculum Institute, Education Bureau, Government of the Hong Kong Special  Administrative Region.
