Telling My Story: A Creative Mixed Media Workshop in Self-Exploration 我的故事:創意多媒體自我探索工作坊

Course Objectives
  1. Enhance children’s self-awareness and express their future aspirations;

  2. Explore both textual and visual ways of expression;

  3. Learn the basic skills in photo-taking to express their voice;

  4. Synthesize their thoughts and ideas in a collage of still images and text;

  5. Appreciate the aesthetics and creativity in combining photo and text through the process of photography and poetry-writing.

Course Description

This is a creative mixed-media workshop which explores textual and visual ways of expression. Through the activities in class, children will have opportunities for self-exploration and will be encouraged to express their future aspirations through creative media.

In this 2-day workshop:
-  Children will learn how to describe themselves through text and images
-  Children will learn the basic ideas of photo-and-text collage
-  Children will learn techniques in visual presentation in photography
-  Children will write creative poems in English
-  Children will share their artistic ideas and creative products with peers

*Parents will be invited to the last session of the workshop on 24 Aug, 2:30pm - 3:30pm to the exhibit.


Target Participants / Prerequisite

Children enrolling in this workshop should be interested in exploring both textual and visual creative art forms. In addition, the children are expected to have an above-average level of English to complete the creative writing tasks.



Course Instructor

Dr. Serene CHAN

Dr. Serene Chan obtained her PCEd and EdD from The University of Hong Kong. She is also an experienced English teacher and curriculum developer with an MA in TESL. She is interested in the enhancement of creativity and the development of gifted education in students. In addition to teaching experience in Hong Kong, she has taught in the United States, Costa Rica, and Macau.

Dr. Suzannie LEUNG

Dr. Suzannie Leung is an Assistant Professor in Department of Curriculum and Instruction, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She graduated from CityU with a BA (Hons) degree in Creative Media, a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and a MEd degree in Educational Psychology (on dean’s honor list) from CUHK, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education (with distinction) and PhD from The University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Mantak YUEN

Dr. Mantak Yuen is an Associate Professor and Director of the Centre for Advancement in Inclusive and Special Education, Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong. He is a registered counselling and educational psychologist, and a global career development facilitator. He is a Fellow of Hong Kong Psychological Society and Fellow of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association.


Medium of Instruction




·       增強自我認識,並表達對未來的願景;

·       探索文字和視覺的表達方式;

·       學習攝影的基本技巧以表達自己的心聲;

·       將他們的思想和想法綜合成圖像和文字拼貼;

·       通過攝影和詩歌創作欣賞照片與文字結合的美學與創意。


這是一個創意多媒體工作坊,讓參加者探討文字和影像的表達方式。 通過課堂上的活動,孩子們將有機會自我探索,並通過創意媒體表達他們對未來的願景。



  • 孩子們會學習如何通過文字和影像來形容自己

  • 孩子們會學習照片和文字拼貼的基本概念

  • 孩子們會學習攝影技巧和效果

  • 孩子們會創作英文詩歌

  • 孩子們將會與其他參加者分享他們的藝術理念和創意作品

  • 家長將被邀請在課程的第二天到場欣賞孩子們的作品。





陳博士於香港大學修畢PCEd和EdD 的學位。她在英語教學和課程發展方面都有相當經驗,並且擁有一個MATESL的學位。她致力於幫助學生發展潛能和提高創造力。除了在香港的教學經驗,她也曾在美國,哥斯達黎加和澳門等地任教。
