Recognize the learning capacity of twice-exceptional learners + 1 session parent workshop
Course Objectives
 
After the completion upon this programme, 
 
Students can 
  • recognize their own strength, fear and weakness

  • be able to calm the strong emotion when facing challenges and struggles

  • increase interests in reading

  • enhance skills in handwriting and elaborate ideas

 

Parents can

  • recognize child’s capacity from a new perspective

  • acquire tips, skills and attitude to continuously support child’s development

 

Course Description

Students are guided to recognize their innate strength, explore encountered difficulties and fears in reading and writing. Mindfulness practices will be shared so students know when and how to embrace their strong emotions so that they can have a calm attitude to tackle the challenges. Fun activities will be conducted to arouse students’ interests in reading and strengthen their eye-hand coordination, fine motor and eye-chasing skills.

 

Parents are invited to join a 2-hour workshop to know what the child has experienced, acquire the tips, skills and attitude to continue the support at home.

 

**Twice-exceptional students: with gifted potential or talent who also exhibit difficulties in reading and writing

 

Target Participants / Prerequisite

 

Students completed K3-P2 are welcomed. 
Before the programme, a 5-10 min observation and play time with individual student, and another 5-10 min parent consultation will be conducted.

Priorities will be given to students who are diagnosed with specific learning difficulties or under Early Identification & Intervention program.

Course Instructor

Ms. Jo NG

Ms. Jo NG is a developmental consultant, a teacher and a registered social worker. She received a master's degree in Special Education with Gifted Education Concentration from the University of British Columbia. She has been working in local and international schools. She also worked at the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education as a professional development officer in the Teacher Professional Development Division for 3 years.

 

Currently Jo provides consultation service related to special educational needs in local primary schools. She has also been an instructor in the Centre for Advancement in Inclusive and Special Education (CAISE) at the University of Hong Kong since 2015, and served as the Academic Advisor of Hong Kong Gifted Education Teachers’ Association.

 

Jo is keen to support the growth and well-being of children, adolescents, parents and educators through providing case consultation, developmental groups and professional development training. She has been practicing mindfulness under the tradition of Plum Village since 2013 and completed the one-year Mindfulness Teachers Training Program by The Mindfulness Academy in 2015. She has initiated a quarterly Day of Mindfulness for Children with Plum Village monastics and HKU CAISE since March 2016.

 

Her aspiration is to cultivate joy and happiness in children, family, schools and the society.

  • 從嶄新角度肯定孩子的能力

  • 獲得提示、技巧、以關愛的態度去持續支持孩子成長

課程簡介

導師會引領孩子認清個人強項,探索現正面對的困難及恐懼。導師向學生分享正念小技巧及作多次練習實踐,讓學生知道在何時及如何能以平穩的態度處理挑戰。

活動富趣味及啟發性,藉以喚起學生對閱讀的興趣,並強化手眼協調、小肌肉及追視的能力。

家長獲邀參與2小時的工作坊,藉此得悉孩子所經歷的學習旅程,掌握實用提示、技巧和關愛的態度在家繼續支持,一起成長。

 

**雙重特殊資優生︰具才華而同時展現讀、寫方面困難

對象

完成高班 (K3) - 小二學生。

學生和家長均會獲邀與導師分別會面5-10分鐘,以觀察和了解一下學生現況。

已識別有讀寫困難或進入「小一及早識別」計劃的學生優先處理。

課程導師

吳文潔女士 

吳文潔是香港大學教育學院融合與特殊教育研究發展中心的總監 (課程發展),2015年加入並擔任課程導師。她是教師和註冊社工,於2010年在加拿大卑詩大學獲頒特殊教育碩士學位,主修資優教育。曾任職本地及國際學校,現為香港資優教育教師協會學術顧問。

 

吳女士以個案諮商、成長小組、專業發展培訓及公開講座,推廣及支援孩子、青年、父母及教育工作者的成長與身心幸福。她自2013年起參與梅村的正念修習,2015年修畢為期一年的「正念導師培訓課程」(由Plum Village Mindfulness Academy舉辦)。吳女士於2016年3月起協助開辦季度兒童正念日,與梅村僧侶及香港大學教育學院融合與特殊教育研究發展中心共同推行。

 

她的願景是在孩子、家庭、學校及社區中耕種喜悅、幸福的種子。
